Soccer has rules for everything, starting from the field are, the ball, number of players, equipment used, referee, match duration to scoring methods and more. Soccer was more of a people game played in streets and villages in earlier times with some basic rules and not much of restrictions, but with time rules were added and so were restrictions. The need of firm rules aroused with setting up of soccer clubs in England and rising competition among the club teams. To tackle soccer with rules and guidelines, a professional governing body was formed called Football Association.

In 1863 Laws of the Game was set up as a constitution of rules for this game and till today it’s followed with some modern modifications. The Law of the Game holds 17 key rules followed rigidly by soccer teams.

Rule for field play basically determines the laws for the field are, such as line marking, pitch dimensions and more. This rule says that the pitch must be 45 to 90 meters wide and 90 to 120 meters long as well as must be rectangular in shape. This rule also covers dimensions for goal, center circle as well as distance between goal and penalty spot.

Rule for soccer was basically determines the dimensions and weight of the ball, for example this rule states that soccer ball must weigh between 410 and 450 grams, it should be made of leather or material similar to it and the circumference must be between 68 to 70 centimeters.
